Definition by VDI guideline 2510 "Automated Guided Vehicle Systems":

Automated guided vehicle systems (AGVS) are inhouse, floor-supported materials handling systems comprising automatically controlled vehicles whose primary task is materials transport rather than the transport of passengers.
